Bulk Material Delivery in Ionia, NY

Where does the water go after it leaves your downspout? That is the question that decides most drainage orders around here, and it is why so many buyers start with washed stone. New York Rock Supply brings gravel and aggregate delivery in Ionia, NY, from item 4 for a compacting base to clean stone for French drains, drywells and downspout runs.

Ionia sits on flat glacial lake ground that drains slowly, so the stone you pick matters more than the size of the pile.

Materials for Ionia Projects

Water is the driver on most jobs in this town. Flat ground and heavy spring melt leave water with nowhere to go, so buyers order washed stone in a clean, single size that lets water pass instead of trapping it. Start with the coarsest stone and work down to the fines.

• #4 Crushed Stone: heavy drainage, construction entrances and trench bottoms where you want open voids.
• Drain Rock: French drains, drywells, foundation drains and downspout runs, the workhorse for moving water away from a house.
• #57 Stone: drainage, French drains and concrete aggregate, a common middle size for a gravel curtain around a footing.
• 3/4" Crushed Stone, sold as #2 stone: drainage, septic beds, pipe bedding and backfill.
• #89 Crushed Stone: small washed stone for joints and tight bedding at the fine end.

For a driveway that has to hold up, item 4 is the standard New York name for compacting subbase stone, and it locks together under a plate or roller. Top it with Driveway Gravel for the wearing surface, or switch to Stone Dust when you are bedding pavers and flagstone.

Downspout runs and drywells usually pair coarse stone with a filter fabric so silt from the clay ground does not clog the voids.

Ground and Conditions in Ionia

Work here runs from spring thaw into late fall. Frozen, snow-covered ground stops compaction through the winter, and the clay ground can stay soft well into spring, so timing a delivery around the season is part of the job.

Lake-effect snow off Lake Ontario builds a heavy snowpack, and the melt plus heavy rain leaves water standing on slow-draining clay. That is the case for a clean drainage layer under and beside anything you build. Cold, snowy winters bring frequent freezing and thawing, and the lake-bed silt and clay soils are prone to frost heave and turn soft when they thaw. Frost depth is usually about 4 feet down for footings, and the local building department sets the exact depth.

Water also works on the banks and ditches. Waves, ice and high water wear bluffs and shorelines, and creeks scour their banks during snowmelt and heavy rain, which is where RipRap and graded stone fill come in.
